On display are paintings from different generations and styles, featuring masters like
Nandalal Bose and Benod Behari Mukherjee. Contemporary works from Jatin Das, Laxman Pai
and others too are on show. Om Prakash has replaced his earlier geometric formulations
with more fluid forms. Worth a visit.
THEATRE
Shombhu Mitra Festival
(Sri Ram Centre, Delhi; January 30 to February 3 )
Impressario India pays a special tribute to Shombhu Mitra with this festival of plays by
Bohurupee of Calcutta. The list includes Pireeti Parama Nidhi, Ek Din Ek Raat, Sinduk and
Minister Kakatua. As a bonus, there's a photo exhibition (January 30 to February 1) and a
seminar (February 1). A rare treat for the capital's theatre lovers.
A Physician in Spite of Himself
(Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta; January 27 to February 28)
The Company Theatre and Alliance Francaise present an adapted version of Moliere's play --
a musical comedy in English, Hindi and French, that is set in the Bollywood of the 1950s.
The music is by the group Indian Ocean. Interesting.

On the occasion of the state visit of French President Jacques Chirac, this exhibition
aims to highlight the very best in French image technology. An effort, says the French
ambassador, "to overcome frontiers between the fields of art, culture, science and
