ART
Works in Mixed Media
The Village Gallery, Delhi
August 28-September 6
There are glimmers from another world in Bakshi's works with their interesting juxtaposition of animate and inanimate forms. The homage to Ganesh Pyne is unmistakable, both in the build-up of the images and in that brooding presence of the other.

Colours of Independence
Presented by NGMA, New Delhi in association with Centre of International Modern Art, Calcutta
NGMA, Delhi, September
7-28
The Independence bandwagon hurtles along. And the NGMA is hopping on for the second time in two months. This time, there is again a veritable who's who of artists in this hold-all of an exhibition: from the M.F. Husains and Sabavalas to the Sanjeev Sinhas and Nandinis.

MUSIC
Tum Yaad Aaye
Plus Music, Rs 45

This is romance with the capital R back in it. Javed Akhtar's lyrics have the simplicity of conviction and Yagnik's voice is tinged with melancholy in these songs which were not composed for films. Hummable, rather than danceable. And yes, its rather unforgettable.

If We Fall in Love Tonight
Rod Stewart
Music Today, Rs 95

This excellent recording does justice to the best of Stewart. It has some of his memorable numbers like Sometimes when we touch and All for love which he performed with Sting and Bryan Adams. The sexy edge to his voice is intact after all these years.
