In Search of Another Sky

Deepti Naval, The critically-acclaimed heroine of such films as Chashme Baddoor and Katha, has moved on to greener pastures in more ways than one. Apart from pursuing her interest in painting, the actress has also entered the realm of photography. On display at this photo-exhibition are her snaps illustrating the scenic splendour of Ladakh and the serene composure of its people.

Memories of A Hero Stone--S. Nandagopal
(Cholamandal Artists' Village, Chennai)

For sculptor S. Nandagopal it's yet another leap to lofty heights in his 30-year career. His latest welded sculpture in copper and brass will shortly be displayed in Chennai. Over 12 ft tall, it'll also be the city's largest.

Modern Miniatures Exhibition
(Academy of Fine Arts and Literature, Delhi; Nov 6-16)

This singular exhibition organised by the Gandhara Art Gallery of Calcutta features miniatures by well-known names such as Manjit Bawa, Anjolie Ela Menon and Jogen Choudhury, apart from a host of other gifted painters. Is a novel venture, pitting the contemporary miniature against the traditional version.

Graffiti--Postcards from School

Say school and you recall the classroom cranks and crushes, and those days of exams and excitement. A desi version of Grease, Graffiti opens aptly on Children's Day.

(Directed by Valerie Thomas; Starring Suhel Seth, Vivek Mansukhani, Lalit Vachani; Kamani, Delhi; Nov 9-12)

This year's winner of the prestigious Tony Award, art is an intelligent comedy about three friends and the rift between them. What the play finally tells you is that art in itself is not as important as human beings.

MUSIC
Breathless
(HMV, Rs 60)

It is a brilliant combination -- Javed Akhtar's classical Urdu couplets set to music by Shankar Mahadevan. Tere khayalon mein and Koi nahin hai in particular are meaningful and melodious. A treat to listen to.

To celebrate 30 years of a Musical partnership, the three Gibb brothers have come out with an album -- a mix of blues, disco and soul numbers -- containing some of their all-time hits such as How deep is your love and Words.
