In the Name of the Father
Her brothers
Puru and Panini have not made a mark. Maybe Vastavikta will. The late
thespian Raj Kumar's daughter is making her acting debut in Lawrence Desouza's Dil
Cheez Kya Hai, as an egoistic wealthy girl opposite newcomer Shivam. "She fits
the bill," says Desouza. "She has to play a lady Raj Kumar in the film."
Read: arrogant, sure of herself. But it's not just the role that will bring dad to mind.
The 21-year-old has got herself a new screen name: Rani Rajkumar. Jaani, that's a smart
move! Bond with the Best
The name's not Bond, not James Bond. So what? It's Jason Connery.
Sean Connery's son will be in India next month shooting with Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi,
44, for the film The Return of the Thief of Baghdad. "It's a rare
opportunity for international exposure," says Chiranjeevi, who plays the lead in this
Indo-US production. "There are international quality technical inputs that can help
make the film a blockbuster." So that's his motto: bond with the best.
Bad Bad D
This feud just won't end.
After a recent visit to Jaipur, Shobha De wrote in one of her columns
that hardly anyone there speaks English, watches TV for news or is interested in the
English press. The Pink City saw red, of course, but just when you thought the
fortnight-old fury would subside, a prominent paper lashed out last week. Never mind the
rest of the defence. "Ms D almost dealt a heavy blow on (Jaipur)," it said,
"when she writes that people here have not heard about Monica Lewinsky." Who'd
believe that anway.
Stylebhai!
More on the east meets West theme. Three years after his first major show
in the US, 25-year-old Anand Jon created a splash again last week with his Spring 2000
line. Earlier this year, the Kerala-born, New York-based lad (along with Sandy Dalal) was
rubbing shoulders with Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and other fashion gurus
during the Seventh on Sixth fashion week in Manhattan. In his latest line he presented a
stream of elegant, India-inspired outfits. "I'm a total amalgam of two
cultures," he exults. It shows. |
