Punch Packer

Ziauddin Khatib jokes that his fighting instinct comes from the hunt for sponsors. The 22-year-old who won the bronze medal at the World Kickboxing Championship in Corfu, Greece, has to pay out of his own pocket to attend foreign meets. To make money he teaches actors John Abraham and Bipasha Basu how to punch their way to fitness. "But the kick comes from being the sole representative of my country," he says. A high kick for sure.

All Guns Firing

A dance number for the pop music album Kaliyon Ka Chaman gave this tennis coach-turned-actor a foothold in Bollywood. After steamy roles in the forgettable skin flick Hawas, Meghna Naidu is back at what she does best-song and dance. She has an item number in a Bollywood remake of the Kannada hit AK-47. "It was the only song in the film and it is a good way to get famous again," says Naidu. Will her cabaret act be as fatal as the movie title?

WEST END GIRL

After her Chunari chunari number in Mira Nair's Monsoon Wedding, Neha Dubey, 23, has just bagged the lead role in producer Phil Cameron's Twelfth Night to be staged at London's West End. Though Dubey does not divulge details about the production, she says the setting of the play is shifted to south-west India while the dialogue remains Shakespearean. Dubey, who plays Olivia, says, "It will be a great learning experience." But she is not thrilled about spending the next six months in London. "I am not a big fan of the city but maybe this time I'll get a better feel of the place." Mummy Lillette can visit, surely.

LUCKY CHARMER

Will romancing the Big B be as lucky for Sharmila Tagore as it was for Hema Malini? After the hit Baghban pairing, it is Tigress Tagore who stars opposite Amitabh Bachchan in Mahesh Manjrekar's Viruddh. Manjrekar, who calls this his best script ever, says he has put everything he has known about the middle class in the film set in suburban Mumbai. Okay, but what we are waiting to see is if Bachchan's on-screen chemistry with Tagore is as strong as it was with Malini.
