   YOUR WEEK: FASHION

Colour Cacophony

On the Paris runway Stella McCartney sent out an easy, relaxed collection in the drift of whites, pale blues and greys. Back home, Suneet Varma's India Fashion Week winter Finale was an over-indulgent, orgiastic excess of colour, sequins and embroideries. While catwalks the world over are going monochromatic and classic in subdued brights for the forthcoming season, for most Indian designers sadly autumn-winter still generally spells bridalwear. Oh, but for more of the subtlety of Rajesh Pratap Singh-our saving grace.

Tsar Treatment

FIERY STREAK: Auburn is in

Russian dressing down comes to international catwalks this season. Time to give your wardrobe the tsar treatment with some Russian-inspired pieces. Lots of fur toppers, well-covered cossacks bathed in embroidery and a dash of military mode-the Russian look is very in. We spotted how Manish Arora adapted a folksy flavour and gave it an Oriental twist with his long printed jackets. Internationally, everyone from Dolce and Gabbana and Giorgio Armani to Prada and Oscar De La Renta gave fur hats and toggle-front coats a definite thumbs-up. As for the fur, some faux fun can't be bad for you. Not to forget, a round of vodka to keep the oncoming chills away.

jargon CHIC

Pronunciation: shek. Function: adjective and noun. Adopting or setting current fashions and styles; the quality or state of being stylish

Here's a word fashionistas love to use. Also in the news with the launch of high fashion label Moschino's Cheap & Chic range at their flagship store in Mumbai, whose Autumn/Winter 2005-2006 collection is a mix of '40s-style femininity, prints inspired by décor themes, threads of shaken pearls, in shades of blacks, browns, rust, orange and a touch of grey. Moschino's Cheap & Chic will be the buzzword for the autumn/winter. Stay chic.

THE SNOBOMETER
In's

Short jackets: Come winter and structured short jacket takes centrestage. In bolero style or simply quilted and embroidered, Rohit Bal, Ashish Soni and the master of structure Rajesh Pratap deliver some delicious short 'uns.

Churidar pants: Malini Ramani gave them a spiritual twist last season. And now churidar pants find a place of pride in Alexander McQueen's Spring 2006 ready-to-wear collection.

The clutch: The small purse makes a glamorous comeback and how. From Chanel's metallic ones to some traditional ones by desi label Malaga, there is plenty to choose from.

Gadgets go black: The Apple ipod empire has its nifty black nano. With the Moto Razr V3 going black too, dark is now the shade to be.

Out's

Von Dutch: Though worn by Preity Zinta in Salaam Namaste, cheap fakes are common.

Sequins on men: Does India's male population really need them?
