    MY MONEY

Playing For The Future

They may not be participating in the FIFA World Cup, but Indian footballers have their eyes firmly set on goals of a different kind: investing for a life after retirement

RAJAT GHOSH DASTIDAR
Goalkeeper

I trust banks with my money. They have a host of investment plans, and I have taken advantage of them. I haven't made too much money yet. Since these are my working years, I'm concentrating on how to earn more. The mantra is to earn enough money so that I can invest in something big. Also, whenever I get an opportunity, I buy land or a flat. Real estate is a good investment option, definitely.

JAMSHED NASSIRI,
Coach

I think fixed assets are the best in terms of investment. We already have some family property in Shillong, and I look at it as a big asset. I am also buying more property, mostly in Shillong. I have some shares to fall back on, and also a retirement scheme to see me through my old age. I have two children aged five and 12, and ensuring their future is more important to me than my own. So I have taken insurance policies with them as beneficiaries.

BHAICHUNG BHUTIA,
Captain, India

Whenever I can, I invest in shares. For me, it is important to think about the time I want to retire, so I have already drawn out a comprehensive retirement plan. Insurance is the other thing I strongly believe in, and therefore, I have invested in life insurance schemes that give me accident cover as well. I also believe real estate is the place to invest in. I have bought properties in several places, including in Kolkata, and consider them some of my best investments till date.

BASUDEB MONDAL,
Midfielder

I belong to the old school and believe in bank deposits. I put my money in the bank and forget about it. I have taken a lot of LIC policies. For us footballers, it is important to keep an eye on the future, as our earning days are limited. Also, I have to think about accidents, as they happen all the time on the field. I have, therefore, invested in accident schemes as well.
