TWO TO TANGO

Mumbai-based physiotherapist Priti Gupta and college student Shannon Benjamin will make history as the first Indian couple to participate in the International Dance Sport Federation World Latin Competition to be held in Singapore later this month. If the dancers qualify, they will represent India at the Olympics in 2008. Gupta, a Bharatnatyam dancer, is excited and so is their tutor-dancer and choreographer Sandip Soparrkar. "They have good floor craft," says the proud trainer. Here's to a foxtrot finish.

DIVINE CONNECTION

She played a village belle to perfection in Lagaan. Gracy Singh, a trained Bharatnatyam dancer, will now play the mythological Radha in the musical ballet Radhikaa: The Divine Consort, choreographed by Bhushan Lakhandri. "It is challenging to perform on stage, where there are no retakes," says Singh. Maybe the divine connection will give a new lease of life to Singh's acting career.

Remix Rani Returns

She's the original remix video beauty who mesmerised audiences with her sultry looks in Instant Karma's "Baahon mein chale aa". Now, voluptuous former beauty queen Shyla Lopez is back. Featuring again in Ehsaan, Loy and Farhad Wadia's latest remix offering "Aa jaane jaa" in the album Dance Masti Forever, the enigmatic Lopez is all set to sizzle. As usual, our desi Shy-Lo is shying off the press but audiences are waiting with bated breath.

American Desi

The scaling up of Indian characters on American television continues, with NBC showcasing Sendhil Ramamurthy in one of the central roles in Heroes, an ensemble drama series-slated for debut this September-about a clutch of everyday people who discover that they have superpowers. Born in Chicago to Indian parents, both of whom are physicians, Ramamurthy is a graduate of the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, London, and has appeared in a few TV shows, including Casualty, Guiding Light, Ultimate Force, Grey's Anatomy and Numb3rs.
