LADIES' MAN

He's wearing his stardom with as much ease as he wears his casual black-jacket-and-jeans look. Heartthrob John Abraham was recently spotted in the company of Yana Gupta, Deepika Padukone, Riya Sen, Koel Purie and Malaika Arora Khan. He was the only hunk at a rocking girls' night out as Cosmopolitan, an India Today Group publication, celebrated its 10th anniversary with a record-breaking 1,116-page edition. The biker boy amped up the event as flashbulbs popped and TV cameras zoomed in. And with glamazons like Gupta, Padukone and Sen setting the dance floor on fire, it sure was a night to remember.

Sweet Little Debut

"All for Amitabh Bachchan," says the svelte Kanwal Toor. The former Miss India finalist-turned-television presenter is making her film debut with a small role in Cheeni Kum, starring the Big B and Tabu. "I'm not an actor. But now I'm dabbling in theatre too and didn't want to pass up the opportunity of working with Mr Bachchan," says the TV show host who even has a signature fashion label. Toor plays a friend of Tabu's who, ironically, doesn't encourage her association with Bachchan's character. Here's to more such sweet spells.

BAR CODE

She may not have a single hit to her credit, but Aarti Chabria knows how to stay in the news. The actor is allegedly playing the role of bar dancer Tarannum in Apoorva Lakhia's Shootout at Lokhandwala. "I wouldn't say the role is based on a living person. But my character is a Muslim girl and her name is Tannu," says Chabria. Too much of a coincidence, eh?

Purchasing Power

We have heard of Indian fashion designers participating in international fashion weeks and global buyers attending desi fashion soirees. But Pradip Hirani (left) of Kimaya holds the distinction of being the first and only Indian buyer to be invited to the Milan and London fashion weeks. "European designers are bending over backwards; they are willing to modify their designs and prices for the Indian market," says Hirani, back from being "treated like royalty" and meeting names like Roberto Cavalli, Giorgio Armani and supermodel Elle McPherson. Looks like the buyer is the king, in this case.
