A Classic Case

Minissha Lamba is all set to get into a classic mould. Back in school, the actor won herself a copy of Daphne du Maurier's bestseller Rebecca in a multiple-choice mathematics quiz. And after all these years, Lamba is preparing to play the very same character in Anant Mahadevan's adaptation of the classic, titled Anamika, which co-stars Dino Morea and Koena Mitra. Says Lamba, "I had completely forgotten about the book until my mother fished it out for me some months ago. And with this film coming my way, I'm convinced it's destiny." Divine intervention, indeed.
Viva Voice

After lending her voice to the title tracks of Golmaal and Zindaggi Rocks, former Viva girl and Channel V video jockey Anushka Manchanda is giving TV another try, with Star One's musical countdown show Ek Se Badhkar Ek. The 23-year-old hosts the show with Gaurav Kapur, who is "loads of fun". Much better than the remix album offers this singer has turned down, we reckon.
Straight Talk

Water may not have set the box office on fire but that's not stopping Lisa Ray from treading unknown territory. The actor will soon be seen playing a lesbian in the film I Can't Think Straight. Ray plays a Palestinian who falls in love with an Indian woman, played by Sheetal Seth. "Lisa had the right look and was more concerned with the story than the issue of homosexuality, which was a problem with most other actors," says director Shamim Sarif. Looks like this romantic comedy set in London is all set to give Ray's career another boost.
BREAK POINT

Amita Pathak has been dreaming of becoming a Bollywood star since she was three. And now her producer-father Kumar Mangat, of Omkara fame, will launch her in a Rs 10-crore film titled Haaley Dil. "Acting has gradually grown into a passion for me," says Pathak, who dabbled in direction and production before she decided to face the camera. She will debut opposite two new faces. And guess who is scouting for her leading man? None other than Ajay Devgan, we hear.
