Television may have been her launchpad, but Saumya Tandon a.k.a. Rusty of Aisa Des Hai Mera has moved on to bigger things. She will make her debut in an English film, Maya, produced by a Canadian company. The 30-minute film, to be directed by Imtiaz Ali, will be screened only at film festivals. Tandon is unfazed about playing second lead to Kareena Kapoor. "I'm not pretending that it's my film, but I have an interesting part," says Tandon. At least, she's honest.
The Chosen One The talent contest route seems to have paid off for the producers of Nayee Padosan, who have finally found the female lead for their sequel. The winner, Ankita Srivastava from Lucknow, is the newest small-town girl with big dreams. "I saw the contest being advertised on a music channel," says the 21-year-old, who will be wooed by four men in the movie. But having been picked by actors like Govinda, Sohail Khan and Amrita Arora, here's hoping her filmi stint doesn't follow their career graph.
Regional Rani
She has been a hit in Telugu films and shaken a mean leg with Govinda and Salman Khan in Bollywood. Now buxom babe Rambha is all set to take over the Bhojpuri film industry. The Andhra girl is the latest rising star in hinterland's Hollywood, having bagged a few films opposite actor Ravi Kissen. From Banke Bihari MLA to Ram Balram, Rambha is not letting the language barrier keep her away from success. No wonder Kissen calls her "the next big Bhojpuri star". This one is truly a multilingual siren.
Comeback Couple
Bollywood's heartthrob Karisma Kapoor is preparing to set the shutterbugs snapping once again. Kapoor will be making her big comeback along with her favourite co-star Govinda. And to add to the comfort factor, the two will act in a film directed by none other than comedy king David Dhawan. Though Dhawan is reluctant to comment, saying that "details will be released after June", fans of the duo will be eagerly awaiting their next caper. Jodi No 1, what?
