This siren has been known more for her cleavage than her histrionic abilities. But 24-year-old former Gladrags winner Bhairavi Goswami is all set to change that perception. She makes her Bollywood debut with an ensemble cast comprising Rajat Kapoor, Sarika and Ranvir Sheorey in Sagar Ballary’s Bheja Fry. “Sagar met me backstage after my performance in the play ‘Coffee, Tea or Me?’. I couldn’t believe he actually offered me a role based on my acting abilities,” laughs Goswami, who plays a wannabe singer. Mallika Sherawat better watch out.
World Class She has played the demure bahu in a number of television soaps. And now actor Prachee Shah, 27, will play the role of a cultural ambassador for the Indian Council for Cultural Relations. A trained Kathak dancer, she has performed at a number of prestigious festivals. Shah, well-known for her appearance in Kesar and Kayamath, will tour Zimbabwe, South Africa, Zambia and Namibia. “It’s a dream come true for me,” says Shah, dancing her way to diplomacy.
COMIC TIMING
She’s spoofed everyone—from Rakhi Sawant to Hema Malini. And now comedian Purbi Joshi, daughter of veteran actor Sarita Joshi, is all set to host Comedy Honours 2007 on Star Gold, along with actor Shreyas Talpade. The nine-part series will document 101 greatest comic scenes ever. “I feel blessed to have been able to venture into comedy, a hitherto unconventional territory for women,” says Joshi. And she’s now looking forward to having a “fun-filled and exhilarating time”. Laughing all the way to the bank, eh?
Kabul Empress
Vida Samadzai, a former Miss Afghanistan, has her eyes firmly set on the ‘desi’ glamour circuit. Samadzai walked the ramp at the just concluded Lakme Fashion Week. “I’ve walked for designers like Suneet Varma and J.J. Valaya before, but being a full-time model was tough,” she says. For now she is “enjoying every moment of the India experience” and is looking at a few Bollywood offers too.
