BARE TRUTH

Wannabe starlet Sadhikka Randhawa, ostensibly “discovered” by filmmaker Sawaan Kumar Tak years ago, is back to try her luck in Bollywood with the controversial Phir Tauba Tauba—sequel to a forgettable Tauba Tauba—opposite Bigg Boss winner Rahul Roy. “I agreed to expose because today all the big heroines are doing the same,” she says. Hoping to strip her way to stardom, perhaps?
Word Doc

The New York Times called him the doc who “rocks in the or”. Because Dr Atul Gawande, 41, winner of a MacArthur “genius” grant, likes to listen to David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen while he performs surgeries. The former Rhodes scholar has just released his second book, Better: A Surgeon’s Notes on Performance, following the success of his first book, Complications. Here’s a doc who handles surgeries and essays with equal ease.
MONUMENTAL FEAT

From theatre to interior décor and women’s issues, Sangita Jindal, 44, has her fingers in many pies. But it is her involvement with heritage architecture that is now bringing her international recognition. Chosen as the first Indian member of the board of trustees of the World Monuments Fund, Jindal is looking forward to seeing the restoration work being undertaken in Pakistan, Peru and Turkey. “In India, we are just beginning to do some concrete heritage restoration work,” says Jindal. Good beginnings, we say.
ADNAN SAMI

He has shed some weight off his back, 109 kg to be precise. The singer who once weighed nearly 200 kg is back from a weight loss programme in the US with a trim look and a new album Tere Bina.

Q. What was your last big meal before the dieting began?

A. I ate a 32-ounce steak with mashed potatoes, loaded with gravy and some tiramisu. That was my Last Supper.

Q. Things you’ve been able to do after a long time:

A. Simple things like sleeping on my back and travelling without a wheel-chair.

Q. What is your fitness philosophy?

A. I ask myself if I want the momentary joy of eating biryani or a lifetime of bliss—I choose life.

Q. What next?

A. Another 22 kg to lose, and then I’m going to treat myself to a trip to New York.
