Q & A: LARA DUTTA
Second Innings

She wowed them all with a French accent in Jhoom Barabar Jhoom and an appearance at the House of Commons for the Medical Aid Association in the UK. Here’s what Lara Dutta had to say on being born again in the film industry:

Q. So what’s the second coming like?

A. Great! I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the past. Now, I know what I’m capable of.

Q. What triggered it?

A. Aditya Chopra said I reminded him of Kajol in my debut film, but he wondered what I was doing after that film. It gave me courage to sit at home for eight months.

Q. You spoke at the 3GSM conference at Barcelona and now at the House of Commons. How do you do it?

A. It’s hard work but I love it.

Love Lost, Again

His brains and her beauty would have made a lethal combination. But, alas, the author of Satanic Verses, Sir Salman Rushdie, 60, and model-turned-actor-turned-television host Padma Lakshmi, 36, have decided to end their three-year-old marriage. In a press statement, a spokesperson said, “Rushdie has agreed to divorce his wife Padma Lakshmi because of her desire to end their marriage.” The news comes just weeks after he was knighted. Fifth time lucky, perhaps?

THE CROONER

From fashion photographer and theatre actor to Bollywood’s funnyman, Boman Irani continues to surprise. Irani will now sing alongside Asha Bhosle. Bhosle heard him sing “We are The World” on Kaun Banega Crorepati and invited him to croon with her. “She called me to say she was mesmerised by his singing. When we called Boman in London, he almost fell off his chair,” says music composer Shamir Tandon. Crooning glory, indeed.

Thai High

Thai singer Tata Young rocked in Dhoom and now another pretty face from the Land of Smiles is all set to rock Shreyas Talpade’s world. Model-turned-actor Lena Christensen will be seen in Nagesh Kukunoor’s Bombay to Bangkok, based on the exploits of a chef who travels from Mumbai to the Thai capital. The lovely Christensen, who made a desi stopover for a cast party, says she’s grown up on dubbed versions of Bollywood blockbusters and hopes her city of Bangkok will be shown in a beautiful light. Sooth as silk, did you say?
